About This Blog

Moms Speak Up is collaborative blog of writers from various backgrounds. We're talking about the environment, dangerous imports, health care, food safety, media and marketing, education, politics and many other hot topics of concern.

About Us

We are women, parents, consumers, voters and much, much more and we're fed up with the "business as usual" attitude of politicians & greedy corporations. It's time for us to speak up and be heard!

Check out your school supplies…

…the coating on these Favor Set of pencils contains a high amount of lead. The sets have been recalled under Canada’s Hazardous Products Act, but if your kids are using these pencils, Health Canada advises you to take them away immediately.

Surprise, surprise…they were manufactured in China.

Apparently, there is no risk associated with holding and writing with these pencils, but the risk comes from putting the pencils in one’s mouth. Get this: if your child has sucked on one of these pencils, you’re advised to have your child’s blood checked for lead poisoning.

I hate to contribute to a culture of fear, but man…is anything safe these days?

Somehow this doesn’t surprise me. Sadly, that’s the kind of junk (in the photo) that people buy for birthday party goody bags and teachers give out as rewards. Suddenly, candy doesn’t seem so bad *sigh*
